What I liked

This company is my first look into the power industry as a civil engineer and opened a whole new world of possibility for me!

What I wish was different

I wish there was more of an in-person environment instead of fully remote.

Advice

Explore the electrical industry if you are a Civil Engineer because the infrastructure needs to be designed by Civils and it is a little known industry for people that aren't electrical engineers.

What I liked

I liked how a lot of things I was able to do on my own. I also liked if I didn't understand how to do something, I would always have someone I am able to ask.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was in person. The internship was remote due to the office changing locations and the new office was ready yet at the time of my internship.

Power Delivery Intern

What I liked

The people in the office are so wonderful to work with and made me feel like an important part of the team even as an intern when I had no idea what was going on. I also worked here when COVID hit and they were very accommodating to their employees through the pandemic. They made a point to not make any layoffs and even gave us all (interns included) bonuses for being flexible and working hard through the hard times. Great company to work for and great work to do.

What I wish was different

I was thankfully living at my parent's house so it didn't matter, but it would be nice if this company helped with housing especially for their co-op employees. Even starting as a full-time employee I will not be receiving any sort of relocation or housing assistance.

Advice

It's pretty generic advice but just ask a lot of questions. Going into this, I knew absolutely nothing about power delivery or transmission lines and I was a little worried to sound silly but it's just better for everybody to ask when you don't know something. Also dive in to the company culture. That's one of the best parts of working for POWER and I would take full advantage of it.

More JR. Engineer interaction and facilitation of relationship, diversity, employee resources

Packaging Engineering Intern

What I liked

Being able to directly work on projects with designers and engineers and having a significant impact on the outcome of the projects.

What I wish was different

I wish I could've gotten to do some more design work for the packaging lines.

Advice

You have to be able to learn things right on the spot and remember them for future situations so you aren't always asking for help.
