Project Engineer - Construction
Position Summary:
The Project Engineer – Construction role is focused on assisting with building infrastructure related construction projects to support warehouse equipment and operations for retail and e-commerce distribution centers. This can range from coordinating the installation of air plants and HVAC equipment to replacing trailer lots or staff offices. Responsibilities include maintaining and tracking schedules and budgets for assigned projects, coordinating vendor activities, and providing technical support to the maintenance and engineering teams.
Job Responsibilities:
- Partner with construction manager, maintenance, and other engineering team members in establishing project objectives and design, procedures, and performance standards within parameters of corporate policy.
- Oversee scheduling and coordination of vendors, contractors, and subcontractors and ensure these align with project and company priorities.
- Ensure adherence to design standards, construction specifications, and building codes.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction quality, progress, and contractor performance, report on budget, schedule, and scope status.
- Interact daily with stakeholders to interpret their needs and requirements and represent them in the field.
- Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, vendor performance) and report regularly on project status.
- Coordinate construction activities to minimize disruptions to operations.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with project managers, other project engineers, and stakeholders.
- Assist with pulling building permits and scheduling inspections.
- Review project deliverables to ensure they meet design intent.
- Review construction documents for constructability and provide feedback to manager.
- Resolve in-the-field constructability and other issues with contractors/AE/PMs.
- Monitor job site safety and immediately report or address any observed hazards.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration with internal stakeholders, including Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, IT, and Asset Protection.
- Support the development of RFPs and participate in scope and bid reviews to ensure contractor proposals align with project scope.
Job Qualifications:
- 3+ years in the construction field.
- Be able to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Proven computer proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office
- Effective communication and cross functional team collaboration skills.
- Detail oriented with creative problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Project and vendor management experience.
- Decision making ability and time management skills.
- Experience with CAD
