Electrical & Electronic Application Functional Safety Engineer

The Ford EESE organization has identified expanding core competency in Functional Safety (FS) is a top priority to maintain leadership in advanced E/E systems. Ford EESE is currently adding numerous design features with significant Functional safety impact and as such is seeking dedicated and highly motivated engineers to lead, track status and review the functional safety analysis for all new technology features from research to production.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables: 
  1. Work with Feature Owner to: 
  2. Perform Hazard and Risk Analysis and derive Safety Goals for the feature
  3. Derive detailed Functional Safety Requirements (FSRs) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs)
  4. Capture FSRs and TSRs in SysML models and the VSEM system
  5. Ensure that FSRs and TSRs are properly cascaded to the HW and SW teams.
  6. Develop System level Safety VnV Plan & Report for the FSRs and TSRs
  7. Develop DVMs with proper traceability to the FS requirements
  8. Lead functional safety design confirmation analysis (e.g. DFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, …) at Feature level and at integrated System/ECU level
  9. Assist in the development of the joint Ford-Supplier Development Interface Agreement (DIA) for externally supplied ECUs
  10. Responsible for tracking timely delivery of the FS related artifacts in the GTDS Technology Integrator and GPDS Integrator
  11. Support EESE plans to build capability in the area of software and hardware for safety critical applications per ISO 26262
  12. Support integrating FS into EESE overall Quality Operating System (QOS)
Required Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Systems Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience is E/E system design and development (coursework allowed)
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Systems Engineering
  • Experience in Functional Safety (ISO 26262)
  • Experience in system modeling (SysML/Matlab/Simulink) 
  • Experience in safety confirmation analysis (DFMEA, HARA, FTA) 
  • Knowledgeable in automotive product development life cycle – Highly Preferred
  • Knowledgeable in Ford requirements management tools  - Preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to forge productive relationships, achieve cooperation, and influence priorities of technical experts and other key partners
  • Strong oral/written communication skills and ability to lead group projects and management reviews.
