Airport Operations Agent PT19 - AOCC

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Airport Operations Agent Part Time 19 - AOCC

The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Airport Operations Agents PT19. The successful candidate will be located in the Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC) and primarily respond to life-safety dispatches from inbound communication systems. Airport Operations Agents respond to such situations as aircraft alerts, fire alarms, facility evacuations, roadway accidents, traffic control issues and door and gate access control alarms. This is a great opportunity in a fast paced environment for an individual with clear communication skills who is able to multitask and prioritize. The AOCC is staffed 24/7, therefore, duties include working rotating shifts and assignments, including holidays, nights and weekends. Work requires communication with airport users, tenants, federal, state, local government and other agencies.

General Description

The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform specialized, independent operations work involving a considerable amount of public contact in the dynamic environment of the County's Aviation Department. All Aviation Department employees must possess the ability to interact courteously with the public, Airport vendors, contractors and fellow employees to maintain a professional work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes a positive work environment.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires two (2) years of college level course work in airport management, aeronautical science or closely related field. (Or any equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.)

Requires one (1) year experience in airport operations or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Must possess a valid Florida driver's license during employment and maintain authority to drive on County business.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge with a customs seal.
 
Preferences:
Associate Degree in Aviation Management or related field.
Two (2) years' experience in communication systems including radio dispatching and scheduling.


All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check, including fingerprinting and all other information as required by the Federal Aviation Administration. * Post-offer physical examination including drug testing. * Ability to maintain authorization to drive a County vehicle. * Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge. * The Aviation Department operates under a Drug-Free Workplace Policy in compliance with the provisions of the Federal Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. 

The agents are responsible for maintaining awareness of Airport operational conditions and respond to the needs of the Airport users to ensure the expeditious transition of public movement.

The incumbent must possess knowledge of the following listed below:
 
Provides airport tenants and users with operational conditions, information, directions and assistance through various communications and computer systems to ensure safe, secure and expeditious movement of the traveling public.
Monitors airport operational conditions and status of automated systems, performing routine tests to ensure appropriate notifications and follow-up actions are taken.
By way of telephone, radio and paging systems, coordinates, notifies and generally dispatches to appropriate staff regarding operations, maintenance, safety and security related issues.
Coordinates usage of County owned gates and ticket counters using assigned computer software.
Maintains surveillance to ensure security system is operational and monitors security system activities for discrepancies, and dispatches appropriate staff as required.
Monitors automated equipment systems for fire, security and maintenance alarms, making appropriate notifications when necessary.
Initiates and coordinates airport response and notification of essential local, state and federal agencies to respond to emergencies in support of the "Unified Incident Command" structure; assist with operation of the Emergency Operations Center as required.
Collects, records and compiles information for statistical data on routine and emergency airport conditions relating to safety and security, as well as various operational activities; disseminates information on airport operational conditions, status of construction in progress, and other pertinent airport activities.
Monitors Control Center equipment; reports equipment problems; records daily all significant events disseminated to and/or from the Control Center in computerized logs.
Ability to drive on the movement and non-movement areas of the airfield.
Performs related work as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery.
