Industrial Engineer

The Hub Industrial Engineering (IE) Supervisor is responsible for developing work measurement for use in improving Hub job set-ups and operational conditions that reduce cost and meet service commitments. He/She audits operating plans and procedure compliance, and develops, implements, and assesses feeder operations’ long and short range operating plans based upon work measurement. This position assists operators in implementing improved operating plans, new services, improved procedures, and new technology. He/She provides tools, training, methods certification, and assistance as needed to support the achievement of the business plan. 
The Hub IE Supervisor develops and maintains work measurement for the Hub operation and sub-operation to support operating plans. This includes improving job set-ups and reducing operational hours. It also includes working with the Feeder team to develop a yard shift plan that supports both hub and feeder requirements, and reviewing the impact of standards changes or updates. The Hub IE Supervisor is responsible for analyzing and developing operating plans which involve working with operation managers to develop components of the Master Operating Plan, Daily Presort and Seasonal plans. He/She updates plans to reflect new services or changing conditions, and develops contingency plans for unexpected situations. The Hub IE Supervisor also analyzes current process flow charts, production schedules and other plan components to identify opportunities for process and workflow improvements. He/She provides guidance in improving operations, including working with division and operations managers to improve cost and service levels, and using gap and statistical analysis to identify performance and service problems and develop solutions.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Reviews daily/weekly trends (e.g., historical volume, marketing and economic data) and growth rate calculations to approve volume projections and forecast future asset needs
  • Provides short-range staffing forecasts to assist others in developing hiring plans
  • Develops quarterly and annual forecasts of staffing, assets, and facility needs to ensure the ability to meet service commitments
  • Updates forecasts to ensure validity and assesses the impact of forecasts on business plans
  • Conducts operational audits (e.g., feeder and ground schedules, timecard accuracy, hub flows)
  • Monitors package operations for plan adherence and compliance
  • Determines employee training needs and provides feedback and support
  • Conducts performance evaluations and resolves individual and group performance issues

  • Synthesizes, combines and integrates information and data to form conclusions and make sound decisions and recommendation
  • Must be available to work all shifts, including nights and weekends
  • Must be available to travel occasionally, as needed
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Access - Preferred
