Summer Camp Specialist at North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

The Camp Specialist will assist the Summer Camps Coordinator along with the Deputy Camp Coordinator with administration and management of the upcoming Summer Camps program.
·        Help supervise Summer Camps staff, interns, and campers at two camp locations, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh and outdoor camps at Prairie Ridge Ecostation
·        Interact professionally with Museum staff, parents, and rising K-12 grade campers
·        Assist in camp preparation on weekends or weekday in the spring
·        Help prepare camp paperwork, maintain camp program supplies including daily clean-up of classrooms and equipment, and follow up with Summer Camps Coordinator
·        Assist camps as needed with designed programs, instruction, or activities
·        Meet deadlines, comply with Summer Camps Orientation Manual and any other duties assigned by supervisor
·        Complete animal training before the beginning of camp, previous animal program skills is strongly preferred
·        Provide your own transportation to visit camp locations
·        Assist in camp drop-off and pick-up at the Museum downtown and Prairie Ridge Ecostation. Hours may vary before and after listed drop-off and pick-up times to address program setup or parental concerns.
·        Preferred: experience teaching children with disabilities and those who require extra support or modifications
·        Required: Strong MS Office skills
·        Required: organize and lead small and large group activities, including games, crafts, programs, and crafts
·        Required: CPR with AED training and First Aid
·        Required: previous experience working in a formal or informal education setting
·        Required: attend all Summer Camps Orientation dates Friday, March 22 from 5:30 – 8:30 pm, Saturday, March 23 from 9:00am – 5:00pm, Saturday April 6 and 27 from 9:00am – 5:00pm
·        Required: attend training on additional weekends in the spring
·        Required: college degree or equivalent experience
This position starts at $14.00 per hour. Candidate is required to work around 20 hours a week June 3-7. June 10 - August 16 the position hours will increase to 45 hours per week with overtime pay. Candidate is required to work all the weeks of camp including July 5 - 6. Some flexibility will be required working weekdays/weekends.
