This position reports to the Superintendent within the assigned department. This is a temporary, full-time, hourly-paid position during semester work period. Allowance provided to assist with housing expense. Prior to beginning work, all Co-Ops will attend one week of mandatory introductory safety training. Work will be both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Outside the office, standard work wear will consist of hard hats, safety boots, safety glasses and ear plugs, with other items as needed; these items will be provided.

The electrical position is for a paid Co-Op to work in the Electrical/Instrumentation Maintenance Department with electrical engineers, technicians and managers. The position works primarily in support of engineering projects. There is no set task from year to year. The task list is tailored to match the experience and skill of the intern. Past projects have included surveying the settings in the circuit breakers throughout the facility to help abate arc flash explosions, developing project estimates for potential new projects, developing engineering specifications for electrical projects and working with electricians and contractors on large projects that are in progress.

A major project will be identified and the candidate is expected to develop a presentation to be presented to site management near the end of the Co-Op term. Co-Op length is variable, but typically lasts from January through July for the spring term, and June through December for the fall term.

Skills:
  • Ability to effectively communicate (both verbal & non-verbal) with a diverse group of people.
  • Must be able to work at heights, outdoors, and around potentially hazardous chemicals.
  • Must be comfortable and physically capable of entering and working in a confined space.
  • Must be able to hear and understand audible alarms, changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communications.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft’s Office Suite.

Qualifications:
  • Must be a rising Junior (at minimum), who is currently enrolled in a recognized Bachelor’s Degree program in preferably Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Active and in good standing with an accredited university; GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, required.
  • Strong written, verbal and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Ability to ask questions and act upon the information presented.
  • Candidate must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation (reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions).
  • Must be available to work for the entire semester.
  • Must pass a pre-employment exam and drug screening.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
