Intern, Design Engineer

The QBP Equity & Diversity Internship Program will be composed of multiple interns working across different areas of the business. The interns will have role-specific responsibilities within their dedicated field in addition to group activities and projects. If you are passionate about bikes and the outdoors, this could be the perfect internship for you!

Equity & Diversity Internship – Design Engineering

Are you an engineering student who loves bicycles? Does it sound like your dream job to work on a team that shares your passions for bikes, outdoors, and everyday adventures? If so, this could be the internship for you! QBP is looking for a talented engineering student to join the product development team for summer 2019. This person will be involved with several QBP brands, working closely with the Product Managers, Design Engineers, and Industrial Designers throughout the product development process. The ideal candidate is an organized self-starter with a passion for bicycles, and with past internship or project experience in the fields of mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and/or product development.
What you will learn:
  • Interns will be an integral part of the engineering team, taking on individual projects scoped to their skills and tenure, and engaged in all aspects of the design process from concept exploration to manufacturing production product
  • Work on nimble cross functional teams in the engineering design and iteration of bicycle products, such as frames, forks, tires, racks, and accessories
  • Use SolidWorks to create 3D computer models and technical drawings, perform structural analysis, and manage files needed to facilitate the manufacture of product
  • Communicate with oversees vendors on projects, requirements, and engineering specifications
  • Coordinate lab testing and/or ride testing to validate concepts and qualify designs
  • Make change recommendations based on test data analysis, industry safety / compliance requirements, and desired ride qualities
  • Research and explore opportunities in the bicycle world to develop fun and innovative future product

What you need to succeed:
  • Qualifications-Currently enrolled in a full-time 4-year engineering degree program. Ideal candidate is completing their junior year, but sophomores are encouraged to apply as well
  • Proficiency with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
  • Strong mechanical design creativity
  • Ideal, but not required: previous internship or project experience in the fields of mechanical engineering, manufacturing, or product design
  • Behavioral Attributes
  • Self-starter, willing to take initiative and work effectively without close supervision
  • Collaborative approach – seeks the input of peers and is comfortable responding to constructive feedback and alternate methodologies
  • High attention to detail and a high personal standard of work
  • Able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Ability to show up with a sense of humor and a smile, even when faced with obstacles, because hey, we’re making bikes, and at the end of the day, fun matters!
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to use the computer extensively
  • Ability and willingness to test and evaluate a variety of products (aka Ride Testing)
  • Eligibility requirements for all Internship Positions:Enrolled in a full-time 4-year university degree program, with at least one semester remaining after the internship.
  • Hours required: Full-time, Monday through Friday schedule
  • Dates of employment: June 10 - August 16, 2019
