POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide planning, direction, and supervision for the Manufacturing Engineering Department relating to manufacturing facilities, equipment, processes, and procedures to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals in a continuous improvement environment. This individual will possess great communication, verbal, written and management skills. Individual must demonstrate prior experience with quality procedures such as SPC and FMEA and have sound knowledge of lean manufacturing and just in time delivery principles. Responsible for ensuring all production and quality requirements are met using a minimum of resources. Provide key leadership in the implementation of lean manufacturing principals. 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
  • Develop all required manufacturing and quality processes and equipment to ensure manufacture and timely delivery of product.
  • Manage and own the Manufacturing Engineering efforts for the company and provide on-going manufacturing / engineering support for new products.
  • Help manage the document control system. Write and manage ECNs.
  • Develop the annual capital equipment budget. Oversee the justification, planning, and execution of individual capital projects within schedule and budget guidelines.
  • Oversee the maintenance of all routers and labor standards as well as manufacturing procedures and associated documentation.
  • Seek out, research, develop cost analysis, and justification for new methods, procedures, equipment, and materials.
  • Evaluate production capacity capabilities of existing operations and recommend and implement enhancements as needed.
  • Champion quality improvement initiatives through six sigma process improvement projects.
  • Analyze production processes, work balance, production scheduling, capacity, and cell concepts to optimize crew distribution for efficiency, capacity, and lead-time.
  • Provide leadership for production efficiency improvement initiatives plant wide.
  • Participate in the investigation and assessment of sourcing options (and vertical integration alternatives) for key components.
  • Identify manufacturing variability issues and work with Design, Production, and Maintenance to reduce or eliminate variance.
  • Monitor production processes and then work with operations personnel to create standard work procedures, enhance flow, and implement Lean concepts throughout the plant including 5S, Kaizen, etc.
  • Develop and lead cost reduction projects.
  • Provide planning and support for new product introduction.
  • Seek ways to continually deepen the company’s understanding and accomplishment of key core processes of welding technology.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Responsible for the supervision of business unit employees involved in Product Development, Testing and Prototyping. This includes performance appraisals, communications, training, and disciplinary action.
 
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering field required. Professional Engineer's license preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in fabrication and machining.
  • Experience in heavy industrial manufacturing preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ previous experience as a supervisor or manager.
  • Must have knowledge with actual experience preferred using the Pro/E CAD system.
  • Experience as a 6 Sigma black belt preferred.
  • ISO 9001 knowledge and experience preferred.
  • At least 2 years’ experience with machine and fixture design.
  • At least 5 years’ experience with developing, writing, and executing capital equipment and facility layout projects.
  • Must be a self-starter and work under limited supervision.
  • Must exercise substantial degree of judgment.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.
