Transportation Engineer 9/10/P11 - North Region
The North Region of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) currently has multiple entry level engineer positions open. We will keep this advertisement open until our needs are met.
Please apply if you currently have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or will obtain one by June of 2019.
This position is intended to expose the employee to many disciplines within MDOT and to develop basic skills necessary for successful career and professional development in the transportation industry. Assignments will vary throughout the North Region and may include: construction administration, design plan preparation, traffic safety engineering, material testing, bridge inspection, geotechnical analysis, surveying, and utility / permit review. This position may work in a team or independently and requires meeting deadlines and resolving issues to ensure the successful implementation and operation of MDOT services. Successful and continuing customer focus is a requirement for this position. The employee in this position is expected to work in various locations throughout the North Region to develop in the areas described within this position description.

Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering or in civil and environmental engineering or obtaining by June of 2019.
Experience
Transportation Engineer 9
No specific type or amount is required.
Transportation Engineer 10
One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.
Transportation Engineer P11
Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.
Alternate Education and Experience
Transportation Engineer 9 - 12
Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.
Additional Requirements and Information
Valid Driver's License.
Continuous training as required or requested.
Preference - Working toward P.E. registration.
