ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST - SR. ENGR. TECHNOLOGIST - POWERTRAIN - ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN

Job Summary:

Manage powertrain dynamometer test cell and facility projects, including developing specifications, soliciting bids, selecting an appropriate combination of external and internal resources to deliver results on time and within budget. Apply appropriate safety, environmental and quality procedures. Other duties may include, performing technical tasks in original test set-up following automotive engineering principles and calibration of complex systems, as required. Execute test plans involving engine and dynamometer set-up per engineering requirements, data analyses and interact with a team of engineers and technicians to deliver high quality testing operations. Ensures the maintenance of test cell ancillary systems, including facility support systems. Works independently as part of a dynamic team to rapidly deliver exceptional results following client requirements.

Education/Experience:

Requires a high school diploma with 20 - 25 years related test cell experience with continued education or certification or a BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology with at least a 3.0 GPA and 0 - 5 years of experience. 2 years of powertrain test cell development, build-up and test operation including safety, calibration/quality required; 0 – 2 years of project/task management including budget, schedule and technical aspects; Outsourcing/subcontractor management is required. Required skills: Understanding of test cell operations in engine installation, safety and environmental factors; must have experience with automotive mechanical systems such as engines, transmissions, powertrain test systems; must be able to identify and problem solve complex mechanical issues; must be able to learn quickly and adapt to the workflow of an established team; strong background in all aspects of fabrication, especially as applied to powertrain testing required; Familiarity in instrumentation for powertrain testing and emissions monitoring is required; must be able to record data and document necessary information regarding calibration and maintenance performed on test equipment; must be functional with applications including Word, Excel, and the ability to adapt and learn new programs utilized in the department, such as computer aided drafting (CAD); must be able to work in groups or independently as required by project needs. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
This position requires passing the test.

Work assignment is in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident due to ITAR work in section.
