MDOT Transportation Engineer 9-12 (Roadway Operations) Field Services

As a recognized resource, this position provides expert technical advice and consultation to region staff in the area of roadway maintenance operations. Establishes a lead role on department committees relating to winter operations and other roadway maintenance activities. Responsible for contract management of statewide maintenance material contracts. Monitors, evaluates and recommends improvement to current maintenance policies, methods, procedures and practices. Represents the department on national committees and pooled fund consortiums. Initiates, coordinates and take a lead role as project manager for maintenance related projects including the Automated Vehicle Location and Maintenance Decision Support System projects. Also responsible for coordination with other section initiatives including Performance Based Maintenance and the Transportation Asset Management System.

Required Education and Experience

Possession of a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering or in civil and environmental engineering.

Note: We may consider applicants that will be obtaining a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering or in civil and environmental engineering by December 31, 2018.

No specific type or amount is required.

One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.

Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.

Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to

a Transportation Engineer P11.

Alternate Education and Experience

Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.
