Intern - Engineering Specialist

This Summer Internship opportunity is available to students who have achieved classification as a Junior, Senior, or Graduate student at an accredited college or university. The Summer Internship program will begin on June 3, 2019 and end August 9, 2019. Transcripts (can be unofficial) are to be submitted with application.
 
This internship position will expose a graduate student to the hydrologic and hydaulic analysis tools at water control structures and timeseries and structure databases used at SFWMD, water control manuals, operation plans and then perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis at water control structures in support of the Water Control Structure Book Update Program. Internship will also expose the graduate student to the District’s Emergency Modeling Team (EMT) and the associated work and projects.
 
The intern will perform timeseries analysis including cyclic analysis at headwater and tailwater stages at control structures, gather structure information from as-built drawings, master water control manual, system operating manuals, STRIVE database and update the structure information book.The Intern will also work to mine hydrological data (historical and real-time) to be used in EMT models, as well as help with the MIKE Operations model under development.
 
At the end of the internship, student will write a report with the findings and give a Powerpoint presentation.
 
The successful candidate will report to the District’s headquarters in West Palm Beach, Florida.
 
Internship rate of pay is $12.00/hour and students will work a maximum of 32 hours/ week.
 
Employment Guidelines
Typically has achieved classification as a Junior, Senior, or Graduate student in Civil Engineering or Hydrology and Hydraulics degree program at a college or university accredited by a recognized national or regional accreditation association. Coursework must be relevant to internship and no experience is required. The student must have a 3.0 average or higher and maintain an average grade of B or above in all major fields of study.
