Summer Internship - Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineer Intern will carry the responsibility of working the KEMET Applications Center. There the Electrical Engineer Intern will develop systems and devices to showcase the performance of KEMET’s industry-leading passive component technologies. The evaluation platforms developed at the KEMET Applications Center will be within the context of showcasing our component’s parameters as it relates to the application, systems, and devices in question.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Design test and evaluation platforms that focus on the impact of passive component selection
  • Redesign reference schematics from active component suppliers with KEMET devices
  • Implement test plans that will result in detailed device evaluation
  • Produce test reports for both internal and external use
  • Develop new application-focused test procedures
  • Experiment with new designs and industry leading technologies
  • Investigate the impact of leading-edge technologies on our components
  • Competitive analysis in-situ
  • Collaborate with Field Application Engineers to develop experiments and application designs
  • Research and report on the technical impacts and requirements of new technology trends

 Skills and Knowledge Required:
  • Analog, power, and digital design experience
  • PCB design and manufacturing including schematic and layout
  • Power distribution network design and analysis
  • Design of switched mode power supplies
  • Design of charging systems both wired and wireless
  • Embedded system design and programming
  • Knowledge of communication interfaces: I2C, USB, SPI, Serial, Bluetooth, WiFi
  • Knowledge of signal conditioning and filter design
  • Knowledge of AC power and multi-phase systems
  • Experience with DC/DC, AC/DC, and inverter topologies

 Education and Experience:
  • Current Student in their 3rd of 4th year of studies in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 1 year of circuit design and validation experience
  • Experience in the electronics industry or other technology-related field strongly preferred
