Environmental Protection Engineer I

Under direct supervision of the FESOPs and Open Burning Unit Working Supervisor, performs routine analysis of permit applications; assists higher level engineers in the review of permit applications; codes, reviews and investigates information contained in permit files; maintains records; participates in discussions with permit applicants and Agency engineers. This position may involve overnight travel for training or meetings. Based on Permit Section workloads, priorities and operational needs, including the experience and expertise of the employee, this position may be assigned on an interim basis, to a different Unit Working Supervisor in the Section by the Section Manager to perform duties for different types of permit applications.

Education: Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with a Bachelor's degree in an engineering science. Typically, the subject matter would involve the type of coursework associated with environmental (sanitary, hydraulic, hydrology and air pollution specialties), civil (sanitary, hydraulic and hydrology specialties), general industrial, mechanical, chemical, public health, electronic, acoustical or aeronautical engineering or engineering mechanics or a closely related engineering specialty.

Desirable Requirements: Good oral and written communication skills; ability to make mathematical computations and calculations; ability to understand, interpret and apply state and federal rules, regulations, etc.; ability to plan, schedule and prioritize daily work; and good decision making abilities.
