Battery Electric Vehicle - Powertrain Systems Engineer

Ford Motor Company’s BEV Powertrain Engineering team is in the exciting and rapidly-advancing area vehicle electrification. Our organization is growing and is in search of outstanding individuals to help shape the direction our next generation of hybrid and electric powertrains. Successful applicants will work closely with various electrification departments to lead the development of architecture and requirements for a forthcoming products while assessing cutting edge technologies to support the roll out of a best in industry electrified vehicle product portfolio.

 

 
 


Responsibilities:  
 
  • Lead definition, development, sizing, requirements of next generation electric powertrain systems to meet program targets
  • Lead power-pack sizing and trade-off studies for optimal attribute/cost balance
  • Align with Planning, program CNE, VEME, VE and VI on target trade-off
  • Lead definition of powertrain architecture and cascade system targets to meet vehicle attributes
  • Lead / support GPDS milestone reviews of the system definition, requirements, and capability (assessment against the requirements)
  • Develop robustness and failure mode analyses for new technologies
  • Develop and present system trade-off studies to solicit direction from management
  • Work closely with transmission, motor, inverter, brake and controls engineers, team leaders / technical experts to define a system meeting the requirements in the presence of noise
  • Develop actions addressing lessons learned from previous programs
  • Produce systems documentation including architecture and functional diagrams
 
Basic Qualifications: 
 
  • M.S. in Engineering or related technical field
  • 2+ years working experience of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) powertrain system functionality and attributes at system, subsystem OR vehicle level
  • 2+ years of experience in systems engineering role to include Automotive Engineering concepts and processes
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
 
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross functional teams and driving product development issues to resolution
  • Capable of communicating technical information concisely in executive reviews
  • Knowledge of working globally across cultural and organizational borders to achieve one goal and meet targets highly preferred
  • Passion for the development and advancement of electrified vehicle technology
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, self-motivated, eager to take responsibility and deliver results with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of advanced and forward model development process
  • Knowledge of powertrain testing tools, analytical and CAE tools and performance modeling
  • Knowledge of program planning, program management, powertrain component, or systems design
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills - ability to organize multiple inputs into succinct summary and manageable discussion
