Application Engineer, Diesel Engines 

Location:  Kohler, Wisconsin

The Diesel Applications Engineer is responsible for the application of mechanical & electronically controlled diesel engines across several different markets. Some engine software calibrations engineering is also required for applying electronically controlled engines.
 
Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide engine application testing services to validate engine installations in various machines in the field, at Kohler and at customer sites.
  • Work closely with U.S. applications team & manager as well as R&D in Italy to communicate application sign-off testing results & address customer needs.
  • Assist sales team as the technical liaison to the customer by supporting selection of the appropriate engine for an application, understanding the customer’s performance specifications & developing a validation test plan to sign-off the application.
  • Be the technical voice of the customer to Kohler R&D & marketing.
  • Work on special projects as dictated by the needs of the department.
  • Travel required throughout North America with occasional travel to Europe. Prepared to travel up to 60%.
Skills/Requirements

  • Accredited engineering or engineering technology degree required - B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, but will consider B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automotive
  • Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in application of diesel engines preferred.
  • Basic electrical controls/circuits knowledge is required. Mechanical/hands-on aptitude for working with customers and solving problems is preferred.
  • Experience with SAE J1939 CAN communication preferred.
  • Knowledge of U.S. and European diesel engine emission regulations is a plus.
  • Computer Literacy. MS Office experience required. Experience using INCA and ETAS Products a plus.
  • Good organizational capability; high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on and complete multiple tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Understanding of electronically controlled/Tier 4 final diesel engines and after-treatment systems preferred.
  • Ability to work independently or within international teams.
  • Strong customer interaction/relationship experience is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of Italian is a plus.
