Licensed Vocational Nurse - District Wide (Position #124)

JOB TITLE:   Licensed Vocational Nurse                   
WORK LOCATION: Various School Sites
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under direct supervision of the District School Nurse the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides health support services, as assigned to students at school sites. Duties include providing specialized health care services requiring licensing as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•     Current valid California License as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
•     Valid CA driver’s license and evidence of insurance
•     Valid First Aid / CPR Certificate

Knowledge of:
First Aid and CPR procedures; emergency equipment, supplies, medical appliances and equipment and terminology related to student health programs; health and medical record keeping practices, State and
Federal Health and Safety Regulations including procedures related to blood borne pathogens; modern
office practices; Nursing practices, basic anatomy, symptoms indicating change in health condition, care of the chronically ill and/or medically fragile students.
 
Ability to: Interact in a positive manner with students, staff, parents.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
At least one year of experience providing student health care in a special education class or a health office or providing student or adult health care in a nursing facility, clinic or hospital.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under direct supervision of the school nurse follows written procedures/care plans for identified students, provides specialized health care services to students including, but not limited to; tube feeding,
catheterization, suctioning of tracheotomy tubes, changing of ostomy/colostomy bags, diapering and/or
assisting children onto toilets, changing tables, applying or removing medical appliances, pushes wheelchairs, etc., maintains daily records of specialized health care provided, attends to sick and injured students in the school health office, administers first aid, notifies parent or other authorized persons when children need to be sent home, identify and report communicable disease to school nurse, administers/dispenses prescribed medication to students, maintaining appropriate locked storage area, checks and rechecks students for pediculosis as needed, brings incidence of health problems to the attention of school nurse, maintains health and immunization records, prepares required reports as assigned, assist school nurse with coordination, scheduling, notification of parents of state mandated screenings and records data, ensures that health office is maintained in a secure and sanitary manner, assists in answering telephones or other general clerical duties as time permits or assigned, performs other related duties as assigned by the school nurse.
 
WORKING HOURS AND PERIOD:
Unless otherwise provided in the collective bargaining agreement between the Konocti Unified School District and the members representing group, the holiday, vacations, sick leave, lunch period and breaks are as provided by law. The working hours are as per assigned per day by the District Nurse in agreement with the collective bargaining unit and approval of the Superintendent, five days per week, 183 days per year.

Specific Qualifications: Current CA LVN License, Current CPR/First Aid and CA Driver's License
Additional consideration will be given to qualified candidates who are bilingual in Spanish.

Work Schedule: 8 hours per day
Salary: $19.38 - 21.36 Depending on Experience
