Position Summary:  The Air Management Specialist position completes ambient air monitoring activities to assess air quality as required by the Clean Air Act (CAA) Amendments. This position has a dual role in both field and data management operations. This position is responsible for following procedures outlined in the CAA, Quality Management Plan (QMP), Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), and Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) to operate equipment that collects ambient air monitoring data. This position also assists the Quality Assurance (QA) coordinator with recordkeeping, technical writing and quality assurance activities related to ambient air monitoring. This responsibility includes actively documenting and implementing procedures associated with gathering, processing, and reporting data. An understanding of atmospheric science, chemistry and air monitoring equipment theory of operation is critical to meet the needs of this position. Specific air monitoring networks which this position will be responsible for include, but are not limited to, criteria pollutant, mercury and atmospheric deposition networks, and national air toxics trends stations.

Qualifications:  
Required qualifications include:
  • Education or training in chemistry, biochemistry, physics, biology, meteorology, networking & IT, engineering, or other natural sciences related to Air Management
  • Experience in an environmental setting collecting samples, auditing sampling equipment, or performing quality assurance tasks on sampling equipment

In addition, preferred qualification include:
  • Degree in chemistry with a focus on environmental chemistry
  • Writing laboratory standard operation procedures or other technical documents used in a laboratory setting
  • Analyzing environmental chemistry data and working with environmental chemistry databases
