Junior Computer Vision Engineer

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is actively seeking a qualified Computer Vision Engineer for the development of advanced algorithms for the intelligence and defense communities. Application areas include geolocation, image analysis, machine learning, and point cloud analysis. The scientist / engineer will join a multi-disciplined collaborative team of engineers and scientists

Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have an active interest in applying math/statistics/physics/engineering concepts to solve multi-disciplinary problems. The candidate should be familiar with improving/optimizing/tuning existing algorithms as well as development of new algorithms from scratch. This will include software design, software development, and debugging / issue resolution. The candidate should demonstrate a hands-on approach to problem solving and must be willing to actively participate in evaluation of algorithm and system performance. Other responsibilities include assisting in preparation of oral and written reports, supporting R&D business acquisition.

Required Computer Vision Engineer Qualifications:
  • BS in Mathematics / Physics / Engineering / Computer Science along with 1-2 years' experience
  • Strong foundation in software development and experience with designing computer vision algorithms
  • Drive to address complex problems with technical solutions that work
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Desire to work in a highly collaborative, innovative, small R&D team
  • Strong initiative, self-starter, quick-learner, proactive contributor
  • Excellent presentation and written / oral communication skills
  • US Citizenship (Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information)

Additional Desirable Qualifications:
  • MS. or Ph.D. in Mathematics / Physics / Engineering / Computer Science or a related quantitative field
  • Software development experience with a high-level language such as Java or modern C++
  • Familiarity with software design patterns
  • Experience prototyping algorithms in Python using libraries such as Numpy, TensorFlow, OpenCV, Pandas, scikit-image
  • Proficiency in some of the following areas: statistics, optimization, photogrammetry, machine learning, image analysis, signal processing
  • Experience with geospatial data formats, concepts, and tools such as GeoTIFFs, coordinate reference systems, GIS, GDAL
  • Experience working with LiDAR and/or photogrammetric point clouds
  • Experience with cloud-based computing
  • Experience working on intelligence and DoD programs
  • Prior / existing security clearance
