Packaging Engineer

SUMMARY 
Facilitate all packaging related activities to ensure efficient delivery of materials and to improve the product flow along the supply chain. Convert wood and corrugated packaging to plastic and returnable containers to reduce costs and improve operational efficiencies.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1. Identify key suppliers to utilize returnable containers to maximize safety, storage, protection and shipping.
2. Right size required product and research alternative container methods.
3. Maximize material handling efficiency.
4. Negotiate with the supplier cost of container verse corrugated, wood etc to reduce part price.
5. Maintain returnable container master by supplier.
6. Train and educate customers (internal and external) on the program.
7. Assist the plant Plan for Every Part Specialist in implementing reusable containers.
8. Understand and maintain compliance to government regulations and laws.
9. Analyze engineering drawings and product specifications to determine part characteristics to ensure proper development of protective packaging taking safety and special handling into consideration.
10. Develop sketches, specifications, samples, and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval.
11. Consult with purchasing and manufacturing departments to determine costs and feasibility of proposed packaging.
12. Ensure packaging can be utilized throughout all processes of the operation.
13. Provide guidance to purchasing on the supplier cost of the container verse corrugated, wood, etc.
14. Develop cost reductions as a result of packaging that is flexible to accommodate multiple products.
15. Responsible for creating cost justification presentations to executive management.
16. Develop packaging guidelines in conjunction with industry standards, best practices, and Oshkosh Corporation requirements.
17. Drive change in supplier shipping and packaging habits. 
  
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS 
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or related field ·
Minimum of 1 year Packaging Engineering experience · 
  
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
1-3 years’ experience in a team environment ·
Previous experience in a heavy manufacturing environment with a high operational tempo ·
Prior Lean; Six Sigma or Project management experience is desirable ·
Excellent organizational and communication skills
