ENGINEER - RESEARCH ENGINEER - POWER CYCLE MACHINERY

Job Summary:

Perform evaluations and analyses of problems of propulsion and energy machinery and associated sub-systems. Perform finite element analysis, fluid dynamics analysis, fluid network modeling, mechanical design of experiments, test articles, tools and instrumentation. Assist in the development of software and diagnostic tools to enhance data collection and analysis, machinery system modeling, the diagnosis and solution of existing machinery problems, and the design of improved fluid handling machinery systems. Conduct laboratory research required by clients and directed at finding solutions and advancements for fluid handling machinery, combustion devices, and piping systems. Independently write technical reports, proposals, and technical presentations. Participate in conferences and other events to actively promote SwRI business.



Education/Experience:

Requires a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering degree with 0-5 years of experience. M.S. in related engineering field preferred. Coursework, research or industry experience in fluids and thermodynamics, mechanical design, piping, machinery, controls, etc. is desired. Rotating machinery (compressors, pumps and/or turbines) experience is preferred. ANSYS experience preferred. Strong communication skills for the preparation of technical reports, proposals and presentations are required. FEA, CFD and CAD software knowledge is desired. LabView and hardware or system controls knowledge is desired. Turbomachinery system knowledge is a plus. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
This position requires passing the test.
