Project Engineer Development Program

Project Engineers at Armstrong World Industries support the design and installation of capital equipment and systems in our ceilings manufacturing locations. As a member of a cross-disciplinary team, you will participate in or lead projects including problem investigation, project requirements gathering, developing solutions, writing scope documents, specifying equipment, preparing appropriation requests and working on all phases of project and equipment installations. You will work hand-in-hand with the subject matter experts, production managers, and front line operators in improving manufacturing operations.

TYPICAL PROJECTS INCLUDE:
 
  • Replacing/adding production capabilities by adding or modifying equipment
  • Troubleshooting production problems
  • Establishing equipment Standard Operating Procedures and maintenance practices to place assets in a precision state
  • Estimating and executing new product and cost improvement projects
  • Modifying equipment and processes to automate manual tasks to improve capacity and/or reduce cost

YOUR TRAINING EXPERIENCE:
 
  • This position is part of AWI's ceiling technology training program
  • Your first 3-6 months begin at our Corporate Headquarters in Lancaster, PA learning about our engineering processes and key technologies used to make ceilings
  • Your next 4-6 months occur at one of our ceiling manufacturing facilities where you will increase your understanding of the company and ceiling technology
  • Upon completion of the development program, you will begin a full-time permanent assignment as either a corporate-based engineer traveling and supporting multiple plants or as a plant engineer at a manufacturing location in Marietta, PA; Hilliard, OH; Newark, OH; Johnstown, OH; Millwood, WV; Marshfield, MO; Macon, GA; or Pensacola, FL.
 

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THIS POSITION:
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 2.8 GPA
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and CAD experience required
  • Engineering-related internship, Co-Op, research experience or work experience in an industrial environment or manufacturing facility is highly desirable

  • Demonstrated leadership skills through work, school or extra-curricular activities
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the specific ability to work in teams
  • Capability to build working and professional relationships with other functions
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel and relocate within the United States and internationally
  • Ability to work independently and make autonomous decisions when necessary
  • Unlimited authorization to work in the United States
  • Able to climb ladders and walk catwalks, etc., in order to monitor, direct and validate equipment and installations
