ARA’s Raleigh, NC division is seeking a staff-level engineer for a position developing advanced scientific and engineering software for DoD applications. Candidate will have a strong passion and background in making quality production software at all stages of the software-life cycle. As a valued contributor to our software team your responsibilities will include (1) collaborative brainstorming and problem solving to define requirements, objectives and potential solutions; (2) develop and test software from inception to deployment in the intelligence and defense communities; and (3), testing and maturing software with new ideas and customer feedback as part of an agile team.

The opportunity for career advancement and continued learning at ARA does not stop there. We strive to identify cross-train opportunities and encourage staff to become involved in upcoming R&D efforts as well as interject new ideas into our longstanding operational programs. At ARA, we foster an environment where technical staff are empowered to research and develop their own ideas –with resources and support from a strong internal technical team and external partners. You can expect day to day to have flexibility in choosing the level of autonomy suited to you, while at the same time enjoying a challenging technical career with great opportunity for personal growth.

The successful applicant will be responsible for developing and integrating modeling and simulation technologies that include physics-based capabilities and weapons effects and response. Other performance objectives are verification and validation, and algorithm and software module development.

If you can accomplish the above, you’ve got what it takes. However, you need an MS in Engineering (or a related degree) with 1-2 years relevant work or research experience, or PhD with 3.0 GPA. Due to the work you’ll perform and interactions with intelligence community and DoD programs you will need to be a US citizen. Candidates selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

This position requires strong coding skills in C++, Java, and/or FORTRAN. In order to consider your application, we require that all applicants take a programming test.

Standout candidates will have a desire, if not experience in, DoD modeling and simulation technology, mission planning technology, structural dynamics, blast effects, penetration, fragmentation, geology, seismology, structural collapse, and/or probabilistic analysis. Project operations work in the following software applications, which, again, will put candidate at an advantage: experience with IDEs (e.g. Eclipse and Visual Studio) and Configuration Management tools (e.g. SubVersion and/or Git).
