Geotechnical Staff/Field Engineer

GFA International is currently seeking Geotechnical Staff/Field Engineers to join our team with locations throughout Florida.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Define scopes for geotechnical investigations.
  • Prepare proposals.
  • Obtain drilling permits and coordinate utility locates and field locating of geotechnical work.
  • Provide drill crews with all necessary information to perform test borings and supervise drill crews in the field.
  • Perform and/or assist classification of soil samples recovered from test borings.
  • Perform evaluation of subsurface conditions as they relate to the planned construction. Evaluation may include settlement calculations, bearing capacity calculations, pile capacity calculations, determination of foundation options, determination of hydraulic conductivity, etc.
  • Prepare and/or oversee preparation of geotechnical reports and boring logs.
  • Oversee pile load tests, pile installation (driven, auger-cast, etc.), vibration monitoring and vibro-replacement projects.
  • Perform pre-construction surveys of structures adjacent to planned construction to document pre-construction conditions.
  • Coordinate preparation of invoice
  • Attend meetings as necessary to develop scope, discuss findings, discuss foundation options, etc.
  • Coordinate with CMT department during construction phase to facilitate implementation of recommendations in the prepared report.  

This position requires a B.S. in Civil Engineering (or able to obtain within 6 months of hire date) and coursework should include some or all of the following: 
  • Soil Mechanics
  • Foundations
  • Environmental
  • Structural Design
  • Materials Laboratory
