The Undergraduate Intern position is a developmental assignment that provides interns with real-time work projects, leadership development opportunities, as well as involvement in corporate social responsibility. Work projects involve assignments that are relevant to American’s current business needs and opportunities. Interns are afforded travel privileges enabling them to connect to the international and domestic destinations that American Airlines serves.
 
Description:
 
Focal points of the role will be:
  • Business strategy and planning (day to day exposure and execution to departmental procedures)
  • Process observation, optimization and effectiveness 
  • Hub financial planning and staffing analysis
  • Operational metrics and reporting
  • Presentation development and execution 
  • Exposure to key departments (Network Planning, Tower Operations, Ramp Operations, Customer Care, Catering, Facilities, etc.)
 
Please be advised that this internship will be available in the following locations: Charlotte, Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York City, Miami, Chicago, Phoenix, and Dallas/Fort Worth.

Job Qualifications

American Airlines’ Hub Business Administration internship focuses on providing participants with real-world business exposure, on-the-job training and the ability to move around the department to experience various airport business functions. Characteristics of the successful candidate are:
 
  • Working towards a BS degree with coursework in a quantitative, business discipline (economics, mathematics, engineering, finance, management, etc.)
  • Refined skills with MS Office (chiefly MS Excel and PowerPoint); familiarity with software programs used in conducting quantitative analysis and presentations
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to assemble information, extract pertinent facts, draw logical conclusions and present recommendations
  • Interest in optimization, problem-solving and process improvement
  • Ability to make independent judgments and decisions while taking ownership of job responsibilities
  • Ability to work well within a team office and operational environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
