Field/Office Engineer Intern - Southeast District - Summer 2020

Position Overview 
Kiewit's Southeast District is currently hiring for Field/Office Engineers for their Summer 2020 Intern Program! As a Field/Office Engineer Intern you will be tasked with taking on real-work responsibilities that directly impact construction projects. You can expect to spend time learning and working on shop drawings, submittals, schedules, take offs, pay requests, contract changes, and project documentation. While learning this important construction management skills, you will have the opportunity to build complex projects that make a profound impact on communities in the Southeast area of the United States. This position would start at the end of May and continue through the beginning of August, in time for you to move back to campus!

District Overview 
Kiewit's Southeast District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects you could be working on could include building bridges, airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams, pump stations or tunnels. Although most of our work is regionally based in the southeast region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the east coast. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry as opposed to design.

Location 
The Southeast District office is based in Peach Tree City, GA (south of Atlanta). Our regional offices are in Hanover MD, Tampa FL, Orlando FL, Sunrise FL, Raleigh NC, and Charleston SC. We also have work stretching across the southeast region of the United States, in large cities and small towns, so we are looking for people who are willing to go where the work is to expose your career to abundant opportunities. We relocate our teams based on the work that is available, combined with the development plans, skill sets and career goals of each team member. Job assignment location will be determined closer to your start dates. Must be able to travel and relocate as business requires. 
Responsibilities 
•   Field Operations: Work with a vibrant and diverse team to build, estimate, and schedule construction. Interpret drawings and specifications for field crews and craft, prepare work plans and work packages, order and schedule material deliveries
•   Office Engineering: Perform takeoffs from drawings, generating change orders reviewed by Project Manager, provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations
•   Estimating: Review and analyze data relative to the project, complete plans and specification reviews for projects, assist with the preparation of a bid
Qualifications 
•   Ability to travel and relocate as the business requires (25%-50%)
•   Currently pursuing your Undergraduate or graduate degree in civil engineering, construction management or related degree
•   Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in a wide-ranging climates and environments 
•   Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative 
•   Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time 
•   Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship, both now and in the future 
•   Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt 
•   Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills 
•   Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives 
•   Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
