Facilities Engineer

Facilities Engineers may work at any of Chevron’s worldwide operations. Mobility is encouraged as there are many opportunities to work in a variety of assignments initially at different domestic locations and possibly international locations later in their careers. Our technical training programs combine technical training and mentoring with on the job experience.
 
Asset management and operations engineers may work on a team executing operating plans and capital expense budgets to develop Chevron assets, such as refineries and chemical plants.
  • Assist operations personnel in evaluating existing facilities for cost reduction and improved efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize operating processes like separation and catalytic conversion of crude oil in to gasoline, jet fuel and diesel.
  • Develop and operate technologies like distillation, gas treating, hydrotreating, hydrocracking, catalytic cracking and sulfur recovery.
  • Project identification, scoping, cost estimating, detailed engineering, construction and startup for improvement projects.
  • Inspect pressure vessel and process piping for reliability during operation and maintenance events.
 
Technical support engineers cover many aspects of facilities design.
  • Create and implement large design and construction projects.
  • Become a specialist through experiential training in Electrical/Power, Subsea, Mechanical/Machinery, Materials and Corrosion, Instrumentation and Controls, Processing, and Civil/Structural engineering.
  • Develop new offshore platforms and modify existing platforms.
  • Solve corrosion challenges and implement environmental engineering solutions using alternative energy sources.
  • Work in the Technology Company which consults to Upstream and Downstream across the globe.
 
Project Support – Support Major Capital Projects in a Technical or Project Engineer role.
  • Facilities engineers may be assigned as a technical or project engineer on a major capital project, which is generally a project which is critical to the company and is expected to cost >$1 B. 
  • These assignments manage specific technical packages of work to meet required project specifications and timing, and build project management skills (e.g. framing, design, cost/schedule, construction). 
 
Technology Marketing – Support Chevron’s “Hydroprocessing Center of Excellence” in a Process or Mechanical Engineer role.
  • Facilities engineers may be assigned as a process or mechanical engineer to support refineries and hydroprocessing licensing activities through process designs, technical service, and proposal generation. 
  • These assignments support the team that licenses, designs, and sells hydroprocessing technology and catalysts through its two joint ventures, Chevron Lummus Global (CLG, a JV with Lummus Technology) and Advanced Refining Technologies (ART, a JV with Grace Davison). 
 
Process Research Expert – Develop, scale-up, and optimize new and existing chemical processes.
  • Facilities engineers may design and conduct fundamental and applied R&D programs in support of global lubricant and fuel additive businesses. 
  • These individuals may work independently or with a senior researcher to scale-up chemical reactions from the lab and pilot plant to commercial scale units. 
  • They may work closely with synthetic chemists and formulators to identify process variables affecting product performance and with plant technical and operations groups to provide design support for new facilities.
  • They plan and conduct commercial trials, and assist with the optimization of existing processes and conduct in-depth studies on chemical kinetics, literature and patent surveys, and writing comprehensive research reports. 
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Students completing the last year of the requirements for their bachelors, masters or doctorate degree in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, reliability engineering, materials engineering or naval architecture or individuals with a bachelors, masters or doctorate degree in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, reliability engineering, materials engineering or naval architecture with two years or less directly related work experience.
  • GPA – 3.0 or above
  • Strong academic performance in core programs, communication, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • Position may require driving on a routine basis.
