Catering Operations Overview

Catering Operations includes the design, operation and delivery of on-board dining experiences. We keep operations at our airport kitchens running smoothly through planning, organization and supervision.

Job Overview and Responsibilities

The interns' summer-long curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of an international kitchen operation. The interrelated operation includes dish room flow, equipment segregation, cart assembly, flight supplies, truck load, aircraft provision, and more. As an intern in a kitchen, you will work alongside department supervisors and serve as an internal consultant for the various work streams.

Areas of focus may include one or more of the following:
Strategy development, innovation and process improvement initiatives, performance analysis and data visualization, operational performance, change
management, safety and regulatory compliance, and operations planning.

Interns will be placed on one of five teams:
Food Production, ES&L, Warehouse, Security, Transportation

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting research and fact gathering on areas of opportunity
  • Soliciting input from key stakeholders
  • Analyzing process flows to make standard recommendations
  • Working independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Presenting findings and recommendations to senior leadership
  • Developing solution implementation plans and working with key stakeholders to activate solutions
Required
 
  • Current undergraduate student graduating either Fall/Winter 2020 or Spring 2021
  • Pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Food Science, Nutrition, Food Safety, Food Service Management or other business-based or quantitively-focused field
  • Basic project management experience to focus on rolling out new processes or initiatives with continuous improvement skills
  • Ability to handle simultaneous projects and adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to problem-solve and collaborate across various teams, with strong communication skills
  • Willing to work in an operational environment
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship now or in
  • the future
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
 
Preferred
 
  •  Experience of change management in operations field
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools and skills to explain complex interactive processes
