Position: Full Time, Postdoctoral Scholar
Job Purpose: To conduct research in the areas of Agricultural Mechanization and Precision Agriculture
Duration: The position is initially for one year at 100%FTE with potential of an extension based on performance and availability of financial support.
Where: Digital Agriculture Lab, Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAE) Department

Description: The Digital Agriculture Lab at the University of California (UC), Davis seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the areas of remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and precision agriculture to develop AI-driven techniques for various applications in biological and agricultural domain, such as yield estimation, disease detection, phenotyping, and nutrient deficiency detection. The successful candidate will work on interdisciplinary projects in the BAE Department under the supervision of Dr. Alireza Pourreza. The candidate will report to Dr. Pourreza and will collaborate closely with other scholars, graduate, and undergraduate students in the Digital Agriculture Lab and UC Agricultural and Natural Resources.
The responsibilities of the candidate for this position include:
·        Developing automated AI-driven pipelines for analysis of image-based datasets
·        Writing manuscripts and present research findings in scientific meetings/conferences and extension events
·        Collaborating in writing grant proposals
·        Mentoring undergraduate/graduate students
Required Qualifications
·        Programming skills with proficiency in Python, Matlab and/or R
·        Experience with machine learning/deep learning algorithms
·        Research experience with image processing and analysis of spectral data
·        Experience with analysis of geo-spatial datasets
·        Interest in conducting applied research and extension projects
·        Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

 
 
 
Desired technical skills
·        Experience with machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow/Keras
·        Experience with remote sensing software (QGIS/ArcGIS and ENVI)
·        Experience with operating unmanned aerial systems
·        Ability to develop web-based applications
·        GitHub, Git
