Mechanical Engineering Manager

The Role

 Motiv is looking for a Mechanical Engineering (ME) Manager to join our team and ‘lead from behind’ to maintain a culture of innovation and accountability in a high growth environment. The ME Manager will manage development projects and engineers and will be responsible for the quality and on time delivery of mechanical engineering team’s deliverable. As a direct contributor, the ME Manager will participate in new designs and reviews. She/He will also be responsible for developing development, configuration and release processes. The mechanical engineering manager with work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, vendors and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage mechanical engineering development projects and be responsible for on-time delivery of mechanical engineering tasks
  • Manage the mechanical engineering team
  • Improve Mechanical engineering team processes and infrastructure (tools etc.)
  • Work with the project manager to provide estimates
  • Be responsible for the quality of mechanical engineering team deliverables
  • Lead design and documentation of power electronics enclosures, chassis mounting brackets, and cabling in SolidWorks
  • Work with partners, vendors, customers and Motiv engineers to integrate Motiv products in new vehicle applications
  • Participate in and lead design reviews with the engineering team
  • Ensure Motiv products are designed for manufacturability and provide comprehensive documentation to manufacturing and supply chain
  • Ensure Motiv products are environmentally tested to automotive standards
  • Manage and be responsible for Mechanical engineering work performed by outside vendors and integrate this into Motiv’s internal systems

Required Experience and Skills

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering and 10+ years of relevant experience
  • At least 3 years of experience working on new products
  • Experience working with manufacturing
  • Experience with managing a team of engineers or experience as a technical lead
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical engineering processes
  • Can clearly explain complex technical concepts/issues to engineers and non-engineers
  • Experience designing for rugged industrial or automotive environments
  • Experience with high-power electronics is a plus
