Community Outreach Intern - Catholic Charities Diocese of Arlington

Community Outreach Internship Description (unpaid, one position, Arlington/Manassas)
 
Objectives:
  • To help with one-on-one interactions with community organizations and outside stakeholders; learn about best practices for volunteer recruitment and community engagement.
  • Learn about the challenges and opportunities refugees and other immigrants with legal status encounter after U.S. arrival.
  • To help the Outreach team with day-to-day operations and manage active accounts for Migration and Refugee Services (MRS)
 
Duties: As directed by the MRS Assoc. Director, Community Outreach & Resources in cooperation with the MRS Volunteer Manager/Coordinator: 
·       Coordinate collegiate volunteer and intern recruitment and registration for the upcoming term; plan and co-present at various outreach and recruitment events, workshops, etc.; assist in recording intern hours and maintaining departmental database entries; identify opportunities for MRS participation 
·       Help present the MRS Refugee Simulation to local schools and organizations.
·       Update the website and general support for the Virginia Community Capacity Initiative
·       Assist in event planning and donor recognition
·       Other duties as directed
 
Qualifications:
  • Junior or Senior in College preferred (be at least 18 years of age)
  • Open to other cultures and beliefs; effective interpersonal & cross-cultural communication
  • Adept in Microsoft 365 and a variety of social media platforms
  • Flexible and adaptable regarding variety and change in routines and duties
  • Working knowledge of at least one critical foreign language preferred (Dari, Farsi, Arabic, Spanish, Pashto, Ukrainian, or Kurdish)
  • A U.S. driver’s license with a clean record and at least three years of driving experience is preferred
  • Have a reliable means of transportation to our office (car or public transport)
  • Act in a timely, professional, and ethical manner in all interactions with agency staff and clients
 
Time Commitment:
  • 4-6 hours daily on weekdays, three or more days per week (or equivalent); occasional weekend projects (could be more or less)
 
Experience earned: Non-Government Organization (NGO)/association management, public administration, fundraising and development, international studies
