Engineering Inspector

Duties include overseeing and conducting daily inspections of installation and construction of bridges, utilities, streets and stormwater systems; monitoring assigned projects to assure required safety devices and procedures are in order to minimize hazardous conditions; coordinating testing of materials and finished products; preparing accurate, and verifying, daily activity reports for each project; conducting various quality assurance tests by collecting samples, scheduling laboratory tests and interpreting results; providing monthly and final estimates for payments due to contractors; attending and participating in meetings with City employees, officials and residents about public works projects; and responding to and resolving difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints. Duties may also include inspecting associated erosion control devices and overseeing the erosion control program for both public and private projects, enforcing city, state (TCEQ) and federal (EPA) erosion control requirements. A high school diploma or equivalent, plus some college or vocational training in a related field, and one year of public works construction project experience required. Must have, or be able to obtain within a specified timeframe, a valid Class C Texas driver’s license, railroad safety certification, and Class D Water and Class I Wastewater licenses. Must have basic computer knowledge; familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe preferred. Schedule may include evening and weekend hours. A résumé must be submitted with application.
