IPS Systems Engineer I
Job Description
Come make history integrating electric propulsion into the Navy’s new COLUMBIA submarine class! The integrated power system (IPS) concept fully brings together propulsion and electrical power distribution. The IPS Systems design and engineering team is looking for motivated engineers to develop, integrate, and finish documenting the COLUMBIA’s propulsion plant design. This challenging position will be responsible to:
- Integrate complex electric propulsion motor, motor drive, and control system technologies with traditional submarine systems.
- Develop and document system designs through 2D and 3D diagrams, models, and work documents.
- Develop electrical system descriptions, operating procedures, and acceptance testing documents for use by naval operators and shipyard testing programs.
This position will interface frequently with Navy and Naval Nuclear Laboratory external stakeholders. Occasional travel is required.
Education/ Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- 0 - 2 years engineering experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance through the department of defense (DOD)
Preferred:
- Specialization in power generation, power electronics, or control systems.
- Active DOD secret security clearance
