Senior Service Engineer - LA

MSHS has a vacancy in Harahan, LA for a Senior Service Engineer in the Service Department. 
                               
 
As a Senior Service Engineer (Medium Speed Diesel Engines and Turbochargers) you are required to work independently, or in a team, carry out maintenance, repair work, and troubleshooting of different types of diesel engines and related equipment in the field or in a shop environment. As a Senior Service Engineer, you should need little to no training because you are already well experienced with this type of equipment. Your “specialty” will Medium Speed Diesel Engines and turbochargers, but you will be cross-trained on different engine manufacturers of medium speed engines, slow speed engines, high speed engines, other turbocharger manufacturers, and other equipment serviced by the company as needed.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 
  • Must be able to plan and prepare for upcoming jobs including parts, information, personal hand tools, special OEM tools, and consumables and materials required to complete job.
  • Must able to communicate with the customer to address complaints, resolve problems and complete work scopes while on-site or onboard.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot, overhaul, and repair 2 or 4 stroke medium speed diesel engines and associated systems including electronic control systems.
  • Must be able to create parts orders to complete jobs according to OEM standards.
  • Must manage the work flow and economics during field jobs, including showing flexibility on the job site when there are changes in work scope.
  • Must be able to document all work performed in detailed reports with all measurements and activities included.
  • Must be able to report the work scope documentation in accordance with the manufacturer specifications and MSHS-ISO standards.
 
Requirements:
  • Experience with the following a major plus: MAN, Wartsila, Hyundai Himsen, and STX
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical engineering and at least 10 years in the field experience or 10 years related experience; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Should have at least 10 years experience in the repair, reconditioning, overhauling, and troubleshooting of medium speed diesel engines and related machineries. 
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programs required for work performance and internet usage. 
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of rigging equipment in tight engine room spaces.
  • Required to possess certain tools up to a certain size. A list will be provided as to what is required by the company. All other tools above that size or special OEM tools will be provided by the company. 
  • Must be analytical, reliable, and be able to work independently or in small teams. Must be able to share your share or train your fellow service engineers and service technicians on the engines and turbochargers you are able to work on. As well be trained on engines but other service engineers on engines and turbochargers you are not familiar with.
  • Must be willing to attend OEM training as directed by the company to increase your capabilities to repair engines and turbochargers as directed by the company. 
  • Must be able to travel on short notice and be in the field for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to obtain TWIC, HUET, and other clearances/certificates required by US Government, Offshore Companies, or Ports.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Must be able to lift at least 60 lbs.
