Packaging Engineering Co-op

Job Summary: The Cooper Standard Supply Chain Management Team in Livonia, MI has an exciting chance for an Intern to provide support for the Summer 2021 Program. This position will provide you the opportunity to plan and direct activities concerned with design and development of protective packaging containers. This position will provide you with the opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced team that is developing advanced analytics for real-time process control. If selected, you will analyze engineering drawings and specifications of products to determine physical characteristics of items, analyze special-handling and safety requirements, and analyze the type of materials required for container and internal dunnage. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate communication with Cooper Standard Automotive (CSA) plants and customers for packaging design approvals
  • Collect and enter packaging specification data into various systems. Provide feedback of possible process and system enhancements.
  • Consults with CSA’s purchasing, production, and program management to determine costs and feasibility of proposed packaging.
  • Maintain internal CSA packaging specification system USPEC
  • Pull data and reports from various systems to update monthly KPI’s
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description.
 
Requirements:
  • Must have met the credit requirements to achieve Senior level student status prior to May 2021, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, or a related field
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 G.P.A.
  • This position involves a measure of inter-departmental and external company interaction, so interpersonal communication is a must
  • Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Problem identification
  • Computer and electronics skills
  • Ability to organize, plan, and complete multiple tasks
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Critical Thinking: Using logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Knowledge or exposure to CAD (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, NX, etc)
  • Must be able to read engineering drawings and track KPIs

Work Environment/Conditions:
  • Professional Office Environment
  • Must wear proper PPE while on manufacturing floor
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when needed
