Field Engineer

FIELD ENGINEER
Norfolk Dredging Company operates a fleet of hydraulic cutterhead and bucket dredges throughout the east and gulf coasts. Our projects mostly include channel maintenance and deepening, beach nourishment, land reclamation, and occasionally specialized projects such as trenching for tunnel construction. Our client base consists of both private and public entities, with many contracts won from the US Army Corps of Engineers. Our field engineer position is an entry level position that allows the ability to move into other positions such as QC manager, Site Manager, Site Safety Officer, and Project Manager. Travel is extensive with this position; we typically work 15 days on/ 6 days off. The company provides housing and per diem for meals, as well as transportation (or mileage reimbursement) for your time-off.

Duties
·        Hydrographic surveying using GPS technology
·        Land (generally beach) surveying using GPS technology
·        Managing GPS positioning systems
·        Production estimating and dredge quantity reports
·        Engineering layout using AutoCAD (or Draftsight)
·        Quality Control and associated reporting
·        General support of the project team and promotion of a safe working environment

Required Skills
·        Familiarity with Excel, CAD and willingness to learn new technologies/systems
·        Must be Computer Literate
·        Strong Math Skills
·        Must be able to board and work on floating vessels
·        Willingness to work hard in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
·        Ability to work both outside in the field and in an office setting aboard a dredge

Desired Skills
·        Experience with boating and/or working in a marine environment
·        Knowledge of Surveying Basics
·        Knowledge of the USACE RMS Program
·        Team management experience
·        Strong leadership qualities
·        A drive to continuously improve systems, processes, and operations
