Product Quality Engineer

Product Quality (PQ) in the Laboratory Quality Assurance Department provides Supplier Oversight and Inspection Services for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP). PQ is involved with a broad cross-section of the NNPP's production lines and interfaces with all parts of the Laboratory. PQ is responsible for maintaining the NNL Approved Supplier List which consists of over two dozen vendors with various specialties located across the country. 
PQ Engineer's duties will include but are not limited to the following:
  • Performing Supplier Audits (i.e. System, Focused, or Desktop) and/or On-Site Surveillances
  • Resolving Supplier Quality Deficiencies and Providing Procurement Support
  • Support and be the Primary QPI Point-of-Contact for various Special Projects
  • Support Principal Supplier (i.e B&W, NFS, WM) Quality Program Evaluations (QPE) and Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) Audits
  • Create Product Inspection Plans (NDT or Dimensional)
 
This position might require up to one week of travel per month
 
REQUIRED SKILLS *

Intermediate:
  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience

Advanced:
  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Previous ISO 9000 auditor training
  • Experience with performing supplier audits and surveillances is preferred. 
  • Strong communications skills (Written & verbal) and be able to independently interface with a broad range of internal/external organizations.
  • Familiar with Detrimental Material and Cleanliness Controls, Nondestructive evaluation, Welding, and Manufacturing processes.
