Power Engineering Technologist

As a Power Engineering Technologist, you'll apply your technical skills to design safe, cost effective and reliable facility design for residential, commercial and industrial projects. You're the expert on what our client needs, so you'll make sure that the design and workflow of projects are meeting those specific needs. 

Some duties and responsibilities you'll have in this role:
  • Prepare project and job packages that would include: material lists, labor estimates, site drawings and construction drawings for installation of electrical facilities. 
  • Follow safety protocols and apply codes, requirements and regulations to your assigned work. 
  • Use design software and work management tools. 
  • Make job-site visits: You'll interact with construction personnel. 
In this role you'll need to be able to:
  • Develop skills to accurately evaluate loading on distribution equipment such as transformers & fusing. 
  • Learn utility construction practices on public right of way (ROW) and private land
  • Regularly communicate with clients to ensure that everyone is on the same page, and that their expectations are being met
  • Develop relationships with key customers while representing yourself and the company in a positive and professional light
  • Work well with other people from an array of backgrounds and experiences.

In the role of Engineer I, you will be expected to provide technical expertise and guidance to help solve problems with innovative, applicable solutions. Our engineers are involved in Power Line Transmission & Distribution, Substation Engineering, Renewable Energy Systems, and other projects. We work with different clients throughout each of our offices. You'll recognize some customers that we do engineering work for as some of the country's leading providers of energy and utility services.

Some requirements for this role:
  • Graduation from your college or university with your BS in an engineering science.
  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles. 
  • Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues. You need to be able to spot problems, evaluate alternatives, and prepare and present sound recommendations. 
  • Willingness and ability to work with people from various backgrounds & circumstances (Teamwork is big here!)
  • Understanding of basic electricity and power quality.
  • Some Knowledge of Distribution construction standards and methods
  • Good all-around communication skills. You won't be working alone, so you'll need to be a good two-way communicator. 

We might prefer electrical engineering majors, but welcome civil and mechanical disciplines to apply as well!
