Job Description

**Please note that interviews with the hiring manager will not take place until after Labor Day (there are other steps however, that will be scheduled and completed prior to that)** 
Responsibilities:  
You will participate in the GM EXCEL (Exploring Careers through Experiential Learning) Internship Program. Successfully complete all deliverables for your specific project(s), including: completing any/all Corporate Required/Site Specific/Department Specific and any Optional TRAINING; gathering and analysis of data/information; development of findings and recommendations; presentation of findings and recommendations to Team and to Leadership.  
Projects can be within (but not limited to) any of the following areas:  
  • Casting/Foundry Manufacturing Processes 
  • Engine Machining; Engine Assembly & Test 
  • Transmission Machining; Transmission Assembly & Test 
  • Electrical / Controls Engineering 
  • Gear Engineering & Manufacturing 
  • Battery Assembly & Test 
  • Fuel Cell Technology 
  • Electric Motors Technology 

Perform specific project/assignment(s) within a Headquarters and/or manufacturing facility environment. Can include involvement with any of the Propulsion Systems components or assemblies currently being manufactured or, those being developed for future manufacture, and any of the Machinery & Equipment &/or Manufacturing Processes related to them. May include activities such as:  
  • Analyze and make/purchase components for the best method of manufacture / assembly / test
  • Propose and/or evaluate manufacturing processes and/or plant layouts for machinery & equipment in assigned area and/or product program 
  • Direct the design, development, analysis, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for an assigned area or program 
  • Provide technical support to Operations personnel for specific plant machinery & equipment, including specifications, purchase, runoff, installation, debug, PPAP, and ramp-up activities 
  • Regular contact with others outside the assigned work group, and/or outside of GM, as required 
  • Develop Tooling, Tool Change and/or associated manufacturing processes 
  • Prepare and deliver reports on work progress 
  • Gather, analyze and report on data 
  • Investigate problems and recommend/analyze possible solutions 
Job locations can be at Manufacturing Engineering headquarters in Warren, Michigan or in various plant locations throughout the U.S.

Qualifications:  
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Materials Science Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science  
  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week
