Special Instructions and/or Waivers Needed: Participants will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement/Waiver form prior to arrival at FDOT District Four Office; provided by FIU

Description of Shadowing Opportunity: 
You will be rotate through Roadway Design, Survey and Mapping, and Drainage and will be exposed to Roadway Design and how each of those units contribute towards the production of a set of contract plan

You will work with the District Drainage Engineer and the District Structures Design Engineer who utilizes computer aided drafting and design (CADD) (solid works) software in plans preparation and development. Ensures plans and specifications have been developed in accordance with appropriate design criteria, policy and procedures. Interprets criteria using engineering judgment and experience in the completion of engineering assignments.

You will see complex engineering/ geometric calculations in the development of project design. How the roadway designer develops alignment and grade including horizontal curves and vertical curves. Determines bid items, associated quantities, and compiles quantity summaries.
You will also get hands on approach to see how a manager guides and supports junior engineers in the completion of engineering assignments related to design processes, criteria evaluation, scope development and accurate estimate creation.

Assists in field reviews and field evaluation, data collection, and customer service request documentation.
