2022 Sustainability, Environment & Safety Engineering Summer Internship

What you’ll be able to do:

Through our Summer Internship, you’ll gain the experience, knowledge and skills to take your career to another level. Throughout this 12-week program, you’ll enjoy hands-on involvement in some of the ground-breaking initiatives we’ve got going on. In addition to developing technically and professionally, you’ll be able to build a network of friends and contacts while discovering what it’s like to live, work and play in Dearborn, Michigan. 

Sustainability, Environment & Safety Engineering is responsible for ensuring that our automotive products and facilities meet the environmental and vehicle safety regulations of all of the countries in which we do business around the world. We also seek sustainable business strategies that strengthen our business while enhancing the world around us both environmentally and socially. We are seeking qualified internship candidates for our Automotive Safety Office (ASO), Environmental Quality Office (EQO), and Sustainability, Homologation & Compliance (SH&C) staffs. As a summer intern, you would participate in various projects related to our functions during a 12-week assignment. 

Our “home” organizations include: 

  • Automotive Safety Office (ASO) 
  • Environmental Quality Office (EQO) 
  • Sustainability, Homologation & Compliance (SH&C) 
 
In ASO, we demonstrate our engineering, regulatory and analytics expertise in global vehicle safety to establish policies, develop strategies and provide independent guidance to protect our customers and strengthen Ford’s reputation. We actively supply technical advice to government agencies regarding safety rule-making. We also provide technical analysis to corporate counsel on product litigation. 

In EQO, we ensure that all of our Company production facilities comply with environmental requirements. We also implement innovative environmental initiatives to reduce waste and pollution. 

In SH&C, we are exploring new business opportunities that may result from external climate change and social trends, including an emerging approach to sustainable urban transportation and industry development to address the mobility and accessibility needs of growing urban populations worldwide. We ensure that our cars and trucks comply with all vehicle safety, emissions, and fuel economy, and on-board diagnostics regulations. We actively contribute technical advice to government agencies regarding environmental rule-making. 

Minimum Requirements: 
  • A GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale 
  • Pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in the following fields: 
  • Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering 
  • Candidates must graduate and be available for work prior to September 2023 

Preferred Requirements: 
  • Outstanding interpersonal, leadership and communication skills 
  • Sustainability positions would benefit from Master’s in Business with focus in Sustainability
