Structural Engineer

HRST, Inc. provides power plant boiler technical service and products. We specialize in Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) and Waste Heat Boilers. Our engineers, technicians, and designers pride themselves on performing quality inspections, detailed analysis projects, developing engineered design upgrades, serving as Technical Advisors to plants, and offering professional HRSG training courses to help our clients avoid and solve boiler problems.

The HRST structural engineer is responsible for evaluation of existing pipe systems, pressure part arrangements and overall structural design to support these components in HRSG/ combined cycle plants. Successful performance in this role requires strong fundamental knowledge of pertinent design requirements, ability to diagnose root cause of failure and effectively communicate practical solutions to customers and colleagues. The individual will develop to be a company expert in stress related issues, engage in knowledge sharing and expanding knowledge of new, developing or changing industry issues.

Essential Functions:
  • Act as in-house resource on structural and stress related problems.
  • Perform engineering analysis projects including structural/stress analysis, failure analysis, risk assessment, and other similar studies.
  • Develop new analysis methods and tools for internal use and develop new analysis services to offer clients.
  • Assist in writing and revise engineering standards, engineering information bulletins, technical FAQs, and other engineering documents related to subject matter expertise.
  • Train and develop knowledge in the HRSG facility and power industry.
  • Perform on-site inspections of power plant HRSGs and boilers and provide customers with practical recommendations which increase reliability and efficiency.
  • Assist in preparing proposals to clients based on their specific needs. Determine price, describe scope of supply, write proposal, follow up with client, be prepared to answer client questions regarding proposal.
  • Promote HRST products and services when appropriate.

Computer Skills:
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Preferred experience with industry specific software tools such as RISA 3D, CAESAR II, and ANSYS.

Qualification Requirements:
  • Technical proficiency in one or more of the following fields: structural analysis and design, mechanics of materials and finite element analysis.
  • Knowledge of AISC ASD/LRFD.
  • Preferred knowledge of low cycle fatigue, thermal stress and dynamic load related problem design.
  • Ability to travel up to 25-30% travel as an annual average. Travel may be as high as 50% during busy seasons.
  • Excellent communication skills to interface with and understand the needs of our engineers and of our clients.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills to summarize project results and recommendations.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation, Terrorist Watch List search, motor vehicle, employment eligibility (I9) and drug screening test.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to rent a car.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited College or University is required.
  • Minimum 0-5 years power or similar industry engineering experience.
  • Project management experience is desirable.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
