Role Overview:

Our team is looking for a current college student who is eager to learn about corporate communications, media relations and the health care industry in a fast-paced environment. The UnitedHealth Group external communications team is positioned within the corporate headquarters of a Fortune 5 company, which offers access to a unique and meaningful communications internship experience. In this role, you will develop journalism-style writing skills, learn about working with reporters at top media outlets and dig into complex topics in healthcare industry through research and other projects. Must be comfortable and willing to contribute your ideas and take advantage of networking opportunities across the team and organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Writing for internal and external audiences on a variety of channels (e.g. newsroom stories, media pitches, internal web content, social media posts), using AP Style.
  • Proof and edit key documents and deliverables for internal and external use.
  • Engage in media audits and other research for a variety of teams and develop summaries for senior leaders within the organization.
  • Support media clips reports, measurement and analytics. Learn about best practices in communications measurement.
  •  Monitor and develop responses to engage healthcare influencers on social media

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college / university. Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college / university during the duration of the internship. Internships are not intended for graduating seniors
  • Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA
  •  Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization. F-1 visa holders with Optional Practical Training (OPT) who will require H-1B status, TNs, or current H-1B visa holders will not be considered. H1-B and green card sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Our team is currently flexible on working remotely or in the office. This is subject to change and we will communicate expectations clearly well in advance.

 
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising or the equivalent
  • Experience writing in AP Style or eager to learn AP Style from a team comprised of former journalists
  • Experience writing, researching, and editing
  • Experience with social media
  • Experience in organizing or planning events and meetings
  • Experience working, volunteering, or interning in a health care, policy, research, or public relations setting
