Mechanical Engineering Internship

The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research is offering a master's-level internship at Joint Base San Antonio.

What will I be doing?

As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to research projects focused on medical automation. Specifically, you will assist with various mechanical engineering aspects for developing medical devices to support hemodynamic management, such as devices to insert needles into the vasculature and for closed loop resuscitation. In addition, you will research expanding current Joint Trauma Systems CPGs for PFC scenarios and research the design of a knowledge-based system, encapsulating these guidelines to facilitate development of a mobile decision support system that will enhance decision making at the point of injury during PFC. The eventual goals are to develop and validate this knowledge-based system and accompanying technologies, and transition them to a mobile environment for use on an Android platform, akin to the Army Nett Warrior or SOCOM Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK) platforms.

The fellow with be trained on computer aided design and engineering fabrication processes relevant to these ongoing research efforts.
