Reporting to the Executive Director of the Gordon Career Center, Associate Directors for Career Advising are responsible for overseeing and delivering a comprehensive career development program, supervising career and pre-professional advisors, and providing career counseling to students. 

The Associate Director assigned to Division Three (Sciences and Mathematics) is specifically tasked with supporting academic departments in STEM fields, as well as other academic centers, colleges, administrative offices, and student groups as assigned. 
 
Responsibilities include: 
 
  • Supervise career advising staff assigned to Division Three departments; ensure annual goal setting is in line with strategic priorities of the Gordon Career Center; conduct annual performance evaluations. 
  • Work with Executive Director to develop data-driven approach to creating program and initiatives that support the strategic themes of the Gordon Career Center and the overall career preparation of Wesleyan students. Serve as primary point of contact for assigned academic departments and centers, administrative offices, and student groups as assigned for the purpose of providing information about the office and collaborating on programming. 
  • Advise students who are considering STEM careers on how to explore their interests and skills and ensure that they are well educated in the career planning process. Help them prepare for interviews, refine their resumes and social media profiles, evaluate offers and negotiate compensation, and build professional connections in their areas of interest.
  • Advise students who are applying to graduate school in STEM fields. 
  • Liaise with Wesleyan alumni and parents, including Wesleyan’s designated alumni professional networks and affinity groups, to provide connections for students and to cultivate job and internship opportunities.
  • Participate in the implementation of programs and events (employer information sessions, career treks to offsite locations, etc.) as needed throughout the year.
  • Serve on internal working groups as assigned.
  • Additional duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of experience working in a STEM field; or as a career advisor to students entering STEM fields; or in a recruiting or other professional role demonstrating a knowledge of hiring practices; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

Must be flexible and willing to adapt to the needs of the office as they arise. 

Proven ability to work as a member of a high-functioning, collaborative team. 

Effective communications skills, including presenting to both small and large groups. 

Proven appreciation and respect for racial, ethnic, gender, socioeconomic and sexual identity diversity. 

Strong evidence of organizational and time management skills. 

Ability to learn new technology platforms quickly.
