Software - Embedded Systems Engineering Internship (Fall 2022)

Disclaimer: This position is expected to start around August or September 2022 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e. through December) or into early Spring 2023 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time, for most internships. Please consider before submitting an application.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Many students will be limited to part-time depending on their academic standing.

About the Team
Tesla is seeking talented embedded software engineering students who thrive in a fast-paced environment and want to apply CS concepts to real world projects. Interns are expected to be strong in C and have some experience with scripting languages. Your work will have a critical impact on Tesla products, including our fleet and energy storage solutions. 

What to Expect
Qualified applicants may be reviewed by one or more of the following teams: 
  • Embedded Systems: As an Embedded Engineering intern, you will be responsible for delivering high quality embedded code running on the processors at the heart of Tesla powertrains, vehicles and energy storage systems. Come join a team of deeply knowledgeable engineers that strive to build the most robust and reliable embedded systems using cutting edge software development tools and practices. You will solve some of the most ambiguous and challenging problems in the embedded software space and change the way the world produces electric vehicles and delivers energy! 
  • Gateway Engineering: The Gateway team is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to help design frameworks and infrastructure to test the current and next generation of Tesla products. The Gateway team supports a core component in the vehicle that provides over the air updates amongst other things.

Requirements
  • Currently working towards a BS, MS, or advanced degree in a relevant engineering program such as Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • Experience in embedded development in robotics, real-time controls, or system software
  • Proficiency in C; familiarity with MISRA C a plus
  • Experience scripting in Python, SQL, MATLAB
  • Fluent in software fundamentals including software design and maintainability
  • Experience with the embedded microprocessor tools 
  • Controls software and algorithm development 
  • Test driven development and familiarity with developer driven automated testing 
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate complex technical concepts 
  • Understanding of physics and basic principles is highly preferred 
  • Experience with TI DSPs or NXP microcontrollers a plus
