Cell Test Engineering Internship (Fall 2022)

Disclaimer: This position is expected to start around August or September 2022 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e. through December) or into early Spring/Winter 2023 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time, for most internships. Please consider before submitting an application. 

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Many students will be limited to part-time depending on their academic standing.

About the team

The cell characterization lab at Tesla is looking for a highly motivated intern to contribute to battery performance testing. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a world-class team on developing Tesla’s battery technology. 

This role is focused on creating battery testing schedules and improving test data integrity. The ideal candidate will combine strong knowledge of battery cell cycle life test with hands on testing experience. Teamwork, troubleshooting capability, organizational skills, attention to details and thoroughness are all highly desired. 

Responsibilities
  • Create Polarion test procedure / protocols for internal tests and review them with key stakeholders
  • Develop schedules for validation
  • Perform trial runs of the validation schedules
  • Process trial run data
  • Review outputs and update procedure / protocol, looping back to step 1 as needed, then get approval of the Polarion test procedure / protocol from key stakeholders
  • Create schedules for repo
  • Verify schedules
  • Coordinate development of script generation of schedules

Requirements
  • Working towards BS, MS, or PhD in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Material Science/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 
  • Battery cell testing experience in battery performance lab
  • Proficient in battery cycler Arbin and Neware schedule creation and validation
  • Basic SQL database scripting experience desired
  • Experience with lithium-ion battery cell performance testing 
  • Experience with data analysis using Python is a plus
