Utilities Engineering Intern

Utilities Engineering Intern (2 Positions)
Location: 14 South Fort Harrison Avenue, Clearwater, FL 33756
Pinellas County Government is seeking two full-time (40 hours/week) 2022 Summer Interns for our Engineering Technical Services Section that is within the Utilities Engineering Division and will work directly with a team of engineers. The interns will work primarily in the downtown Clearwater location and have the opportunity to learn land development and permitting processes, site plan review, and utility construction. If this interests you, we encourage you to apply.
Our ideal candidates will be self-motivated with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Candidates will be responsible individuals with ethical decision-making, conduct, and adhere Pinellas County Utilities policies and procedures. Candidates will also possess the ability to contribute to team projects as well as work independently.
Essential Tasks
  • Study program(s) of Pinellas County Utilities.
  • Assist Section Manager and/or Senior Engineers and/or Project Managers with assigned tasks.
  • May prepare reports for staff related to assigned projects.
  • May analyze and present data to management.
  • Some clerical assignments such as scanning or filing.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Position Specific Requirements
  • Currently enrolled toward a degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university or on a leave of absence from an accredited educational institution.
  • Experience with basic computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Highly Desirable
  • Some experience with ArcGIS.
  • Some experience with Microsoft Projects or Microsoft Visio.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to apply computer applications and software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze moderately complex assignments.
