Packhouse & Loadout Engineering Intern

Titan America has an opening for a Packhouse & Loadout Engineering Intern at the Cement Plant located in Medley, Florida. This position’s goal is to assist the department in achieving safety, quality, equipment production and reliability targets. This is a wage non-exempt position assigned to the Packhouse & Loadout Department and will report to the Production Supervisor.
 
Job Responsibilities:
·        Perform all required safety checks and follow all safety rules and regulations.
·        Develop an active commitment to safety at work and help prevent safety incidents by enforcing safety behaviors on operators and truck drivers.
·        Support in the solution of environmental problems and notify any operational event that is affecting the environment.
·        Get involved in quality issues and support the areas when there is a quality or other issue.
·        Assist in the development and revisions of SOP’s for both areas.
·        Learn the Packhouse & Loadout equipment and operations using manuals and discussing with field staff.
·        Support in the solution of operational and machine problems in each area working in hand with the operators and supervisor, and consulting with the mechanical and electrical team to obtain support.
·        Know the configuration of the packhouse and the empty bag warehouse to improve and maximize the spaces to maintain high inventories.
·        Assist the supervisor with maintenance down day planning meetings with operators and support team.
·        Perform machine inspection for job planning and routine follow-up for housekeeping.
·        Track machine efficiency and performance through data entry into daily reports such as: Super Spreadsheet and Daily Packhouse Report inventories.
·        Understand, analyze, and interpret reporting factors such as: BPH (Bags Per Hour), TRT (Total Run Time), TDT (Total Downtime) and Reliability Factor.
·        Learn the operation of loading trucks at the scale following instructions from the weighmaster to serve as support in the area when necessary.
·        Other projects and duties as assigned by management.
 
Qualifications:
·        Active student pursuing engineering degree (Mechanical or Electrical)
·        Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
·        Computer proficient in Excel and Word.
·        Must be able to speak, read and write in English and Spanish.
·        Inquisitive and proactive attitude.
·        Must be able to take decisions under pressure.
·        Ability to work well with others.
·        Strong mathematical and reasoning ability skills.
·        Safety minded.


Student Learning Outcomes: 

  • Industrial packaging machine operation and maintenance (focus on preventing failures and increasing reliability)
  • Student will be expected to learn the machine by using the manual and discussing with the field personnel
  • Troubleshoot the machine problems, contact the OEM (machine original manufacturer) for support
  • Pneumatic systems troubleshooting concentrating on air quality, pneumatic valves, pneumatic pistons.
  • Student will be expected to learn the pneumatic network from beginning to the end
  • Troubleshoot problems with operator and supervisor
  • FIFO (First in- First out) application to an high sales volume warehouse
